Thai Union Group Hosts Thai Ministry of Labour Officials Showcasing Sustainable Growth Initiatives

Thai Union Group PCL (TU) has welcomed a new project launched jointly by the Ministry of Labor, International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand on “Combatting Unacceptable Forms of Work in the Thai Fishing and Seafood Industry”.

Samut Sakhon, Thailand – July 31, 2024 – Thai Union Group PCL, the world’s seafood leader, hosted a visit from the Thai Ministry of Labor at its manufacturing facility, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the Company’s operations, its commitment to sustainable growth through its SeaChange® 2030 strategy, and its vision to lead positive change in marine health and nutrition. The delegation also toured the Company’s zero wastewater discharge pilot plant.

The visit was attended by several high-ranking officials, including; the Secretary to the Minister of Labor Aree Krainara, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare Watcharee Makwan, Governor of Samut Sakhon Paithoon Mahachunchai.  Representatives from various government agencies in Samut Sakhon, including the Social Security Office, the Employment Department, and the Department of Skill Development, were also present. The group was welcomed by Thai Union Group Managing Director (Fish Plant) Suthidej Amornkasemwong, Deputy General Manager Planning and Business Development Suwan Pusrichan, along with the Company’s labor, safety, and sustainability teams.

We aim for 50 percent of management positions to be held by women, 100 percent of our sourcing vessels to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and modern slavery, and 100 percent of the farms we source from to use best labor practices. The transformative changes we pursue through this strategy are vital – not only for Thai Union but for the good of all.”
