The Thai Union Cares program underpins the Company’s commitment to Healthy Living for all and supporting communities where it operates
BANGKOK, 19 January, 2022 ─ Thai Union Group PCL has donated almost four million serving of human and pet food around the world, along with COVID-19 supplies and other financial support, in the two years since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.
In 2021 alone, Thai Union donated nearly one million servings of food, and many other COVID-19 supplies globally, as part of its Thai Union Cares program – a key component of the Company’s commitment to Healthy Living and taking care of the human and animal communities where it operates.
The 2021 donations included more than 500,000 servings of protein rich seafood from Chicken of the Sea to U.S. college campuses to support students struggling to afford food because of financial difficulties.
In Thailand, the Company last year provided nearly 400,000 servings of food, ready-to-eat meals, seabass fillets and rice to community organizations supporting people impacted by COVID-19 in 2021. More than 80,000 cans of Bellotta and Marvo cat and dog food and over 6,000 kilograms of hard cat and dog food were also donated to animal charities and pet shelters.
“Supporting people and animals in the communities where we operate is critically important to us,” said Thiraphong Chansiri, CEO at Thai Union Group. “COVID-19 has presented a unique and difficult challenge for the whole world over the past two years, and is showing no signs of easing as it continues to spread and mutate. We will continue to help as a company, and in partnership with other public and private organizations, as long as is needed.”
Thai Union continued to provide humanitarian assistance and COVID-19 supplies to hospitals, local government, the five preschools the Company established to support the children of migrant workers, and 40 schools under the ConnextED project in Thailand last year. Financial assistance was also provided to hospitals in Samut Sakhon province and Bangkok.
While many of the donations over the past two years were made in response to urgent need to help reduce the severity of the situation, COVID-19 is still with us, and Thai Union remains committed to the continued support of those human and animal communities where it operates.
“You can rest assured that Thai Union will maintain its unwavering support for those in need as we manage our way through this crisis.” Chansiri said.
